Sunny Vowles

STATEMENT

Sunny Vowles is a multidisciplinary artist based in Leeds, UK. Vowles’ work often involves cross-disciplinary collaboration in the fields of art, science and agriculture. Working primarily in Sculpture, Vowles’ practice comprises installation, writing, drawing, sound & performance. Current research includes materiality, subverting connotations around rigidity in sculpture and art practice, the sharing of agency, and embodying working-class histories in relation to the environment.

Vowles studied BA Fine Art (International) at the University of Leeds (2018), is a studio member of artist-led Serf, and co-founder of Freehold Projects in Leeds. She was part of the Yorkshire International Sculpture Network (2020), received a British Arts Council DYCP Grant (2021), was an artist in residence for UK New Artists (2022) and is currently doing an alternate MA with School of the Damned (2022/23). Present collaborations include The Yonis – a band that dances, and as a research & design associate for a bio-based material start-up, where they create biocomposites with materials such as cyanobacteria and seashells.
