STATEMENT
Consisting of staging fictional scenes and reframing the mundane and functional, Sunny Vowles' practice intends to repurpose found objects through contemporary sculpture. Her recent works involve transforming everyday spaces, both inside and out, into stimulating and visually dynamic stage settings. Vowles' gravitation towards maquette forms is one of juxtaposition with regards to scale; creating duplicates in a small scale allows architectural boundaries to be identified, transgressed and experimented with. Such a scale enables a transformation into other mediums such as film, sound, photography and performance. Vowles embraces a physical, open-minded and multi-faceted approach to making, whereby one piece may inform the next through a different creative lens. Poetry is a conceptual undertone fuelling the meaning of her work. Quite often, the sculptural forms Vowles creates act as visual metaphors for the texts she composes and reads, translating this meaning in a physical and tactile manner.
